“Good food but unfriendly service to tourists...”
My Japanese friend brought me there for dinner years ago. This year 2016 in April, I took my husband to re-visit Ginpa in Nowa Building in Shinjuku as because the first time with my Japanese friend was kind of a good experience in terms of service, atmosphere and food. Perhaps the waiters are more... friendly to the local people. We walked-in Ginpa two weeks ago without our Japanese friend, the receptionist at the entrance explained to us that they would charge appetizer fees for 500 yen per person plus 10% service charge. We were absolutely fine with the charge, although the appetizer fees and service charge are rarely happened in the mid-price range restaurants in the city. While we were about to order, the waiter was not pleasant and did not smile when we spoke in English. We ordered 4 dishes (grilled fish, rice with crab, sashimi, roast beef) in which the food taste were pretty good. But we were not in good mood when we were seated - It was all because of the waiter's attitude who served our table. Unfairly, there wasn't any appetizer given to us from the beginning to the end. While I was checking my bill in the end, the waiter pointed to the total amount with impatience and told me (in body language) not to view the individual items. I wasn't happy about the appetizer charge as we received none of it plus the waiter's attitude was really bad and impolite. I didn't understand why we paid service charge to the restaurant. We were not satisfied with their service! The total price for 2 persons was for 7500 yen. To be honest, there are tons of restaurants in the city. I would rather to pick other options on my next trip.

“Enjoyable. Good food. ”
Really nice atmosphere, but sadly the smokers really detracted from the potential of it. Nice service staff. Really enjoyable Japanese dishes. Handy location to the station. The private rooms had been experienced by my sister when she came last month and she said that they were great. Would... come back again!

“Why do they take a service charge?”
They do not work for us specially. They lead us to the seat, take the order, carry the wine and food. Is it something special? We asked about wines which one we should drink. But she did not have the information. So we ordered the wine that we had never drank. And we asked to her , "Etiquette de v...in (Wine label), please". But she couldn't understand what we said in Japanese. So we said again "Please peel the labels of wine bottle. I want them." But it was not enough explain for her. She peeled and brought a label. Only one. She did not peel off the label that was written about the wine in details. The service charge is extra. Under this situation? We were not satisfied. Meal is relatively creative Japanese. However, their too much effort killed material. Some are good and others are not. Restaurant is wide. We can eat dinner relaxing on Sunday night. It is good. But just it is all.
