“Quick, authentic and really tasty!”
When a place is full of locals, you know it must be good! Kamameshi Haru is a restaurant slightly off the main shopping road in Asakusa, specialising in the Japanese 'Kamameshi' (kettle rice) dish. Despite the staff having very little English, they were pleasant and helpful. We ordered two types of... kamameshi and some chicken yakitori for our daughter. The food was served quickly and was really delicious! The restaurant is family friendly and, while not very flash, it is warm and comfortable. A great place for dinner on a cold winters night.

“Kettle Rice - YUM!”
Kamameshi refers to rice cooked in a cast iron pot with various meats, seafoods, eggs, veggies on top. Because of the way it is cooked, the flavour of the ingredients on top of the rice gets immersed into the rice making it extra yummy on the palate. A very traditional way of Japanese cuisine. W...e had lunch there on New Year's Eve. I believe the restaurant opens at 12.30 but starts taking orders of the Kamameshi from 12.10 or so as the rice takes a while to make. The tables are set for 4 or 6 only. You will have to separate into different tables if you have more than 6. We recommend you start lining up at 12noon as the queue can be quite long. There's not a lot of tables available inside. You have to take of your shoes and have them in lockers. there's also not a lot of room for your shopping bags. So it's probably not a great idea shop a lot before eating there (which was my mistake).
