Shutters Jiyugaoka

Happened to stop by for lunch on a Saturday, after visiting La Vita. I ordered the Sashimi Salad (¥1614), the Spareribs (¥2160) ~ with a choice of mustard and pepper and Toast flavored with garlic butter & Mentaiko (¥700). Pretty pricey for lunch for one person (¥4474 incl. tax) so apple pie will ha...ve to wait until next time ; ) The sashimi salad was fresh & well balanced. Except for the spareribs with soy sauce, the others are dry but definitely tender and come off the bone easily. But you are not going to enjoy licking your fingers as you do, when gorging on sweet, tangy and sticky spareribs. Have definitely had better ribs. In fact, the flavored toast was the highlight. Done to perfection and the aroma itself gave me a high. They have an English menu and the staff do try their utmost to communicate. Just remember, if you are dining alone you can't avail of the set lunch menu because you need to be a party of two or more. Can't see the logic in that. I think the weekend menu is a bit too pricey, so try and visit them during weekdays.

We've been going to this restaurant for over 10 years! They're famous for their rib dish and apple pie dessert, but since we're not huge meat eaters we usually order their pasta and salads, and caramel ice cream. Spinach and bacon salad is very good! We like strong tastes so this dish suites our ta...ste. Pasta dishes are all very well cooked too; never overcooked or undercooked and sauces are also delicious! We also like to order their flavoured baguettes as starters; cod roe butter and scallop mayo are the best. Apple pies are good too, but we like to keep it simple and have vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce topping. Very simple, nothing special, but somehow it tastes especially good when you eat it here... :) Lunch menus are cheaper and portions are larger, but we prefer the dinner menu although it is comparatively more expensive.

everything is good. the ribs are famous. all the pastas are very fine. but what moved me is the apple pie ! APPLE PIE !

We had dinner at Shutters after my husband saw the restaurant on a TV show. We ordered salad, spare ribs, and as dessert, their "famous" apple pie. The spinach salad was so overly salted that we sent it back. The replacement was sadly just as salty. The ribs were very nice, but again, heavy on the s...alt. The apple pie. Well, it consists of a mountain of puff pastry and a few bites of apple inside, the covered in ice cream. Disappointed.
