“What a surprise!”
I checked into a nearby hotel late and was looking for dinner. Several restaurants had already closed for the day and I was almost ready to give up. Until I saw the menu for higonoya and decided to take a chance by going up a flight of stairs. When the door opened, I was greeted by a bustling izakay...a at almost full capacity, with laughter and singing and general good cheer. The staff didn't speak much English but tried their best and also passed me an "English menu. I have the word in inverted commas because it really wasn't an English menu. It was just anglicised Japanese words. Nevertheless, with help from pictures in the Japanese menu, I managed to order stir fried peppers (absolutely delish! So simple but so tasty), a yakitori set of 4 (I had no idea what I ordered despite the server's best efforts to explain to me) and a sohu. Yakitori turned out to be very good. There was a chicken fillet one with some sort of yuzu dressing which was out of this world. Combined with the congenial atmosphere, I had a blast!
