“A great refined Chinese food made Japanese way”
My friend highly recommended Masa's Kitchen and since it is in my neighborhood, decided to try it out for lunch. Since I was a walk in, I had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated at counter. I had that days lunch special which consisted of main dish of cloud ear mushroom with chicken. The dish wa...s very refined and enjoyable. The lunch consisted of other small dishes of fried lotus root as well as steamed meat ball and cup of soup. Definitely, a satisfying experience. I'll have to come back for the dinner course which is set at 8000 yen and 13000 yen.

“Open kitchen style - lunch course recommended!”
Visited for lunch after seeing a review on TV. The price seemed a little high, but the lunch course was worth it. Reservation is necessary, if you don’t want the wait.

“A Hidden Gem That Needs Polishing”
My friend took me to lunch at Masa's for my birthday. The restaurant is not very large with counter seating and tables for about 20 people. They told us that we only had 1 1/2 hours for lunch, and they only offer a set prix fixe menu for ¥3800 and ¥5800. The more expensive menu includes soup and ...a seafood dish. Overall I was impressed with the delicacy of the food that is freshly prepared and nicely presented. However, the sweet and sour pork was too sour and there was too much sauce. I would have simply "drizzled" a bit of sauce over the pork. The tan tan mein was also sour, which was unsual. If not for the fact that 3 of the dishes contained black vinegar, I would rate this restaurant a little better, because the other courses were delightful and went well with the Les Vercherre white wine. The pork and tan tan mein went well with the Powell & Son Riverside GMS but would have been exquisite with less vinegar. I would omit the vinegar entirely with the tan tan mein and have added red pepper bean paste instead. The Schechuan pepper ice cream for dessert was a pleasant, refreshing surprise. Might go again, but would ask for sauce on the side if Sweet and Sour Pork was offered, and ask for no vinegar on the noodles. Service is a little bit rushed, since they want to have a second seating during lunch. This was a bit annoying since our bill came to ¥12,000.

“Meh”
This restaurant has received a Michelin star a few years ago this I went in with high expectations. It is located in a basement floor in a relatively quiet part of Ebisu The dinner course for a business dinner included a special noodles with caviar at extra charge (not worth 3500 yen). Including a... bunch of drinks (it was a business dinner, after all!) the bill for a party of eight was approx $1100, which isn't too crazy. Unfortunately I found the whole experience underwhelming. Sure, the service was excellent, but the food? I've had better Chinese cuisine at much lower course. Actually, I wasn't too fond of a few of the courses (sour pork was too sour for my taste, and the appetizers were uninspiring). The only dish which impressed me was the shark-fin "steak," which is a lightly-fried shark fin in its reduced broth. Would I go back? Probably not.

“Dinner in Ebisu”
We had a lovely meal and experienced excellent customer service. Every morsel was impeccably presented and tasted even better than it looked. Hard to beat.
