“Awesome Food”

I came across this restaurant while exploring Shinjuku. It is about 500m away from the Shinjuku Station. The staffs were nice and pleasant. The food tasted good and you the ambience really reminded you of Istanbul. I had a great experience having dinner there.

“Not so good”

I was in Shinjuku, near the station and fancied Turkish for dinner. I have been to Uskdur before, a long time ago, and didn't have strong feeling about it, either way, it was just OK. Today I ordered just a few Meze and some bread, all was fine, although the Spring Rolls filled with cheese, were pr...etty boring, and it would have been useful if the menu has described them in a bit more detail. The problem I had was with the Coban salad. What could be wrong with a simple "shepard's salad" I hear you say. Well it arrived covered with an orange coloured dressing (some variation of thousand island?). I have probably eaten Turkish food 100 times, but don't consider myself an expert, so I checked with the waitress. "I thought Coban salad had an oil, lemon and salt dressing?". She checked with the chef and came back to report that what I was looking at was how it is served in restaurants in Turkey. I double checked online (thanks Wikipedia) and was happy to know that I was not going crazy. It is a small restaurant and the waitress was busy, so I took the plate over to the serving counter of the small kitchen and asked the chef about the dressing. He just started babbling about "this is the system in Japan", and that if I wanted it with oil and lemon I should have said when I ordered ... Bear in mind that the menu has a picture of the salad with no obvious dressing on it, and doesn't say anything except "Coban salad". I said that I would not eat it and he made me a fresh salad, but I really didn't enjoy the nonsense. I will be sticking with Bosphorus Hasan from now on, where I have been eating well for 25 years with never a problem.
