“A good selection of Western-Japanese dishes, in a somewhat upmarket family restaurant”
We were in Takashimaya Dept. Store for an exhibition and decided to have lunch afterwards. It was a Monday, almost 1 o'clock, past lunch's peak but, we still had to wait 15 mins. It seems to be very popular with the locals. The menu is not in English, however they have photo's for all of their dishe...s and a sample showcase (out front) so you shouldn't have trouble selecting your meal. The tables are a little cozy for two, and there are quite a lot of tables so, it was rather noisy when we were there (it's summer holiday - so, there were lots of kids). The Japanese o-bento style lunch that I wanted to order had already sold out, which was disappointing - it looked very good. The meals were an average size (the noodles dishes and the "one plate mix" - combination plate of omu-rice, beef stew and deep-fried crab claw?, looked a lot bigger). The quality of the food is pretty good. I made a mistake of ordering bread, with the beef stew, as the 2 rolls were a little stale. The rice with the seafood curry, we also ordered was much nicer, fresh and fluffier (usually it's the other way round). The beef stew does have fairly decent chunks of beef, but only a tiny little piece of potato - unlike the showcase sample - maybe I got unlucky. Overall, it's a little pricey for such an average-sized meal and the taste was good but, not great. The manager at the cashier didn't seem very happy, however the rest of the table attendants were pleasant.
