“A Taste of Kyushu in the Heart of Tokyo!”
Looking for a tropical escape without leaving Tokyo? Believe it or not, Kyushu cuisine offers that warm southern vibe! For me, as someone from Yokohama, Kyushu feels just as much a “southern island” as Okinawa. So, I headed to Satsuma Musashi Kayabacho, just a one-minute walk from Kayabacho Station.... The restaurant offers semi-private seating, a cozy atmosphere, and a wide variety of Kyushu specialties. Perfect for relaxing with friends, a date night, or even solo dining. ⸻ Drinks & Starters We began with a refreshing Citrus Highball (¥600) and my usual Oolong Tea. The appetizer was a simple spinach ohitashi — light and healthy. ⸻ Recommended Dishes • Sesame Kanpachi (¥780): A twist on the famous sesame mackerel. Rich, savory flavors pair perfectly with rice or sake. • Fresh Sakura Shrimp (¥890): Served raw with a delicate, crisp texture — definitely makes you crave another drink! • Tsukune with Egg Yolk (¥720): Juicy chicken meatballs topped with creamy yolk. Comfort food at its best. • Karashi Renkon (¥780): Spicy mustard-filled lotus root, a historic dish from Kumamoto. Crunchy, bold, and great with shochu. • Mentaiko Tempura (¥880): Cod roe deep-fried into a crispy, popping bite. A taste of Hakata in Tokyo! • Miyazaki Chicken Nanban (¥830): Huge portion, sweet & sour sauce with tartar — bold and addictive. • Hakata Kawa-Kushi (¥994): Grilled chicken skin skewers, crispy outside and juicy inside. Ideal beer snack. • Horse Meat Sashimi (¥1150): Known as “the Ferrari of horse sashimi.” Beautiful marbling and balanced flavor. • Amami Keihan (¥780): Rice topped with chicken, vegetables, and clear broth. The perfect light finish. ⸻ Desserts • Cream Cheese Daifuku Tempura (¥680): Crispy, chewy, and creamy. • Brown Sugar Kinako Ice Cream (¥430): Sweet and refreshing — the ideal ending. ⸻ Final Thoughts Dining here felt like a mini trip to Kyushu without leaving Tokyo. From unique regional flavors to hearty comfort foods, everything was well-prepared and satisfying. The semi-private booths make it a comfortable spot to enjoy drinks and food while escaping the bustle of the city. If you’re curious about Kyushu cuisine, Satsuma Musashi Kayabacho is a must-visit. 📍 Satsuma Musashi Kayabacho Chuo-ku, Shinkawa 1-1-7 GEMS Kayabacho 3F ☎️ 03-6228-3311
