“Enjoyable evening”
We visited to try kyo kaiseki. The food and its presentation, the key thing we went to experience, was very good. Decor and ambiance were nice enough but not memorable. All the other guests were Japanese on what appeared to be first dates so the people watching was excellent! Service was proficient ...but somewhat aloof. The location up winding alleys was lovely, glad we had GPS to guide us there. Expensive for Japan but good value in GBP.

“A casual restaurant with a good selection of traditional Kyoto style foods”
This Kyoto-style casual restaurant is located in the building (Lumine Yuraku-cho) very next to JR Yuraku-cho Station. You must go all the way up to the 8th floor to find this casual but nicely decorated restaurant. They have about a half dozen selections of main food (plus bowl of rice and miso-so...up). Further you can choose three "kobachi" or small bowls with more foods to go with rice or sweets. The price range is US$12 to $15. Not bad for a decent lunch in a very clean setting right in the middle of Tokyo. If you have just watched a movie in the same building complex (Lumine Yuraku-cho), you can have a fourth "kobachi" without an extra charge by showing the used movie ticket. Each portion of foods looks small, but after having all, most of us should feel quite full.
