“One of the Best Traditional BBQ Eel restaurants in Tokyo!”

One of my favorite Unagi restaurants serves traditional style BBQ eels; crispy outside but melting soft and juicy inside. Because it usually takes about a half hour to be served, you should enjoy side dishes, such as Japanese style omelette and yakitori with beer or sake, while waiting. Soy source ...based sweetened BBQ source is too delicious to stop eating steamed rice underneath the BBQ eels.

“Can't go wrong, terrific unagi experience!”

I had tried calling to make a reservation prior to visiting Tokyo but could never reach anyone. So despite the explicit warnings not to go with out a reservation I took a chance on a drizzly weekday afternoon and headed over at 4pm. Someone came out and said I'd be fine at 430pm when they opened so... I wandered about until then. I guess the best time to go is late afternoon because it was just me and another Japanese gentleman at that time. The service was friendly and attentive. They had run out of the large serving so I got the medium sized one. I had had anago eel (sea eel) earlier in the week and while different this was equally fantastic. The eel was super tender with a subtle, not overpowering flavor that practically melts in your mouth. Certainly one of the premier eel experiences I've had anywhere, well worth the visit! Total cost for my set was 4,100 Yen and I was their for about an hour as it took some time to prepare the food.

“Best unagi eel EVER”

There is simply very few words to describe their eel. It's incredibly authentic and is quite literally the best eel you'll ever eat. Have you hotel make reservations for you. It's close to a Subway station and most importantly bring cash with you. They do not accept credit card and you will do well ...to learn a phrase or two in Japanese for the respect for the meal you're about to receive.

“Delicious!”

Called Friday after noon and made appointment for Sunday at 1:30pm. I was staying in Kagurazaka so it was about a 15 minute walk from my place. I don’t know if there are closer stations, but if you walk from Iidabashi Station, it will probably take you about 20-30 minutes. Arrived around 11am to w...ait, and shortly after there was a queue of about 10 people behind us. After doors opened at 11:30am, I overheard a gentleman who did not have reservations being denied a seat as the whole restaurant was reserved. I didn’t hear how long the wait would be but he looked pretty disappointed, most likely due to the fact they were booked up for all of lunch. We sat, ordered, and it took about 15 minutes for the food to come out. I will just say, you can only get this kind of flavor and quality in Japan (and not in the USA). My wife and I were really glad we came, and after our meal, we asked if we could greet the owner. He was nice to come out during the lunch rush and take a picture with us, and he was even kind enough to greet us as we left. He seemed like a humble, hard working guy, and you can taste the care and effort he puts into the food. The ambiance is quiet and comforting inside, but the food is delicious. If you plan on visiting, be sure to call and make reservations.

Amazing experience to be privileged enough to have a meal like this. Beautifully charred eel with incredible rice really made it an unforgettable experience. Like nothing I’ve ever eaten before.
