“A quiet oasis amindst the hustle and bustle”
This restaurant is in a charming alley and feels like an escape from Tokyo's modern hustle and energy. Konsai is a small place, serving a French-Japanese fusion cuisine that was delightful throughout. Each course was presented in a box, that when opened revealed yet another carefully presented (th...is is Japan, after all) course, each with a light touch and contemporary sensibility. Chef Kumagai served many of the courses and was delighted to see a westerner in his restaurant (perhaps uncommon? -- I was the only one there that evening). This place worked for me in every way: the food, of course; the ambience and setting; the pace and friendliness; the location and sense of discovery walking in. Will go back the next time I'm in Tokyo. You should too.

“Vegetable Heaven”
A fantastic small place in Kagurazaka where chef Kumagai-san offers a variety of vegetables dishes, 25 types in the salad!, with the addition of fish or meat dishes of your choice. The vegetables are left almost untouched, slightly grilled or seasoned, bringing out a great natural flavor! The spac...e is plain walls with a magnificent eight meter mahogany counter in the middle. A fabulous display of al the fresh seasonal vegetables sits at one end next to the grill. Set courses are highly recommended, just tell the chef what you like and if you want to add fish, chicken or meat or all the above! Dessert time is a guess what flavor is you set of 3 ice creams! Everybody gets a different set! Please book in advance.
