“Amazing fish for about $10AUD a head (1000yen)”
Amazing experience also known as Echigoya Hachikichi. We arrived early to avoid the queue - wise move, but they do move through very quickly. Specialising in himono fish dishes for under ¥1,000 a set, this favourite haunt of Ginza office workers serves up authentic teishoku (set meal) at lunch. Th...e term ‘himono’ refers to the process of partially drying fish so that the flesh becomes sweeter and more succulent, a curing method that dates back to the Nara period (710-794) – himono was once offered to the royal court as a gift. Most of the dishes here, such as mackerel with crispy skin and salmon, are grilled over charcoal. Sets come with rice, grated daikon radish, miso soup and sesame spinach. Loved this place

“LOVELY FISH DONE OVER COALS”
Had walked past this place many times while staying nearby so decided to give it a try. From the outside it has that old Tokyo timber look about it and inside is the same, small rooms, timber framed and stucco in between, like what it would be like in the EDO ERA I reckon.Very busy we were lucky to g...et in, we were shown into our own little room with a curtain at the door. Very friendly waiter and our order was taken quickly. We had a salad and two different fish, the fish are cut open and halved and then I think partly dried before they cook them over the coals, we had chicken too also cooked over the coals, very nice the lot of it. The place has real old character about it and is very enjoyable. Only a couple of doors away from the Kabuki Theatre it would be a good spot before or after the show. Both an old time experience.
