Kagurazaka Tenko

When we initially decided to go to Tenko we didn't realize where it was located. Having it labeled as in Shinjuku can be a little confusing because it's actually quite a distance from the central part of Shinjuku. It is located in a cool area and the restaurant itself is very tucked away and somewha...t difficult to locate. The tenpura was great, but when being compared to Mikawa we preferred Mikawa especially considering Tenko ended up being a bit more expensive.

Read the CNN review and wanted to try some gourmet tempura. Nicely cooked tempuras (fish, prawns etc) but did not think it was worth the trip or price. Had the tasting menu for lunch and each dish was cooked in front of us. Some were good (white fish tempura) but most of the others were average.

Tempura is a quite simple food. Just put ingredients into the oil and pick up. But if really skilled chef does, taste will be totally different. This is it. I heard this restaurant refused Michelin guide since if they become famous, they will lose some important regular customers like politicians, J...apanese TV stars, and hollywood stars, etc... I knew this restaurant from Japanese TV news. The cheff went to some European country with prime minister Shinzo Abe, to make a presentation of Japanese traditional food. Since I saw this, I really wanted to go and finally made it! It was just A W E S O M E !!! BIt pricy but once in your life, you should try the best Tempura!
