“Family owned restaurant serving home-cooked style tempura in Roppongi”
We got to know about this tempura restaurant from a Youtube video posted by Paolo from Tokyo. We visited the restaurant on a Sunday at around noon but was turned away as it was full. We went back 45 minutes later and was shown to seats at the counter and had the pleasure of watching the owner chef... prepare our meal right in front of us. We ordered the omakase lunch set which was very good. Very good value for money at only Yen 1,900 each. The restaurant has a homely feel to it and the tempura served was very good and tasted home-cooked. Everyone at the restaurant was very friendly and helped us take some photos. We are glad we watched vieo posted by Paolo and visited Tempura Mikaku.

“Better than fantastic”
Firstly, the food was absolutely amazing. Very small shop we went at 11:30 when they first opened they’re so kind so nice to tourists and the food 11 out of 10 highly highly recommend it not to mention the value $30 $32 Canadian for two people for lunch.

“Some of the most delicious”
Some of the most delicious Tempura you will ever have. The two gentlemen running this place are a great team and a product of traditional Japan, both passionate about their craft and perfecting both the hospitality and quality of their food. We sat at the counter and watched the chef work his magic.... Meticulously focused as he gently battered the fresh vegetables, fish, prawns etc he also was attentive to us as his customers. In fact, he heard us commenting on the fact that they have banana tempura on the a la carte menu and he kindly gave all three of us a piece each - compliments on the house. His counterpart, was very hospitable throughout the meal and even offered to pack-up what we couldn’t eat into a very well put together to-go box. We took him up on that! Upon returning home, we learned this place is apparently very famous - including amongst former prime ministers, athletes and various other celebrities. Having lived in Japan over two decades, all as an adult, being a fluent Japanese speaker and being a foreigner I have experienced racism of all sorts at restaurants and other venues. However, I will humbly disagree with the previous comment about the “racist” behavior they feel they may have experienced. Like many Japanese, the proprietors of this establishment, I imagine, have limited English ability. This isn’t racism but just a lack of English knowledge. Great food and you will not be disappointed!

“Racist.”
I have the feeling that we experienced the legendary racism toward Gaijin that I've read about. Tried to go to this restaurant at about 7:45pm on a Wednesday night. I walk in with my (also caucasian) companion, the two owners give each other A LOOK, then the guy makes the X sign with his arms and s...ays "SOLD OUT." He follows us to the door, then locks it behind us as we leave and turns off the outside light. We decide to hang out in the alley a little further down from the restaurant to see what happens and make alternate dinner plans. 10 minutes later, the light comes back on, and 10 minutes after that, a Japanese couple entered the restaurant. They did not come back out- they were obviously seated for dinner. Disgraceful and immoral.
