“Amazing hunt for the place”
We had read about Takeno from a guide book and listed it in our 'to-visit' places. We got a map and directions from the Information Center in Tsukiji Fish market and proceeded to the little lane. Ah.. blame it on our lack of the Japanese language.. When we reached the place as shown on the map, w...e wandered in and out of the lanes.. in our ignorance, walking past the shop front far too many times. In the end, we entered another eatery to ask. The kind old lady in the store led us out into the cold and directed us right to Takeno. A really small (seems to be family-run) food business, there was a staircase leading upstairs. Possibly more seating available up there. There were only 2 men and a lady in the 'kitchen' behind the counter. Another lady took orders and served the food. Thankfully, the lady who took orders was able to converse in mandarin, Otherwise, we would be lost. Everything was in Japanese. How to order?! True to the reviews we had read, the food - raw fish was really fresh! Prices were good too. For 2 set meals, we paid 2400 yen; one set of tempura, another of sashimi. Each set came with a bowl of rice and a bowl of miso soup. Please ask for directions if you are lost.
