“Fantastic”
We discovered Dar Roiseau on Bento.com when looking for a Mediterranean restaurant in Tokyo that was outside of the major tourist hubs. Sangenjaya has many amazing places, and this Moroccan Restaurant certainly did not miss a beat. The restaurant itself is very small, and on a cold winter's night ...it felt incredible cozy. The atmosphere is wonderful, with candles on the mosaic tiled tables, and french cutlery providing an authentic Mediterranean feel. Our waiter was very friendly and extremely attentive in true Japanese fashion. If you can read Katakana then you are able to fully understand the entire Menu. The Lamb Kebab was delicious, juicy and cooked to perfection. The Chicken Couscous main, was again perfectly grilled with slight charcoal finish and succulent meat inside. The couscous light fluffy and aromatic, it came with a side of a tomato broth with stewed vegetables. It was extremely tasty. We also had the Moroccan deconstructed salad. 6 individual beautiful presented Moroccan ramekins with various Moroccan spiced vegetables. And finally the lamb meatballs with cheese, egg and Tomato ragu in the Tangine was brilliant. The staff also seemed very knowledgable about the range of wines they had on offer, explaining the regions and flavours to groups next to us. The Nama Biru was perfect, ice cold with velvety head. All up our dinner cost us Y7050, and it was a fabulous night out. I called ahead to reserve a table on the day (this is advised because the place was completely full all night), they do not speak much English, but definitely enough to make a reservations and explain the menu if you know the basics of Japanese. All in all a fantastic spot, in a new less beaten path for tourists serving tasty authentic Moroccan fare at a very reasonable cost for Tokyo. Highly recommended.
