We had the wonderful privilege of dining at Myogetsubo (妙月坊) Grill&Steak during our Japan trip in June. This was the dining highlight of our trip and outstanding value compared to many other restaurants we visited in North America. We arrived to the restaurant in the early evening rather disheveled ...and tired from a long day of visiting the nearby temples. The servers we had respected us tremendously nonetheless, spoke great English and were very attentive to us. We felt like royalty during our meal. For the prices, the value is outstanding. I had Grade 5 Togichi Wagyu for the first time ever and it set the bar very high. It was the best/richest steak I've ever had - it literally melted in my mouth. My wife had a Grade 3 tenderloin and it was the best steak she ever had (second best steak I ever had when I took a bite!). If you've saved yourself for Wagyu so far, this is a great start at fair pricing compared to other busier areas. The appetizer, soup, salad and dessert combo is highly recommended. You also leave the restaurant full but not comatose sick. Could not rave enough about this place. I complimented the chef and he came out to bow, the servers were top notch, walked us out and bowed profusely. Your gratuity is appreciation and kindness - it will make their day! This was the food highlight of our trip to Japan! We were travelling with 2 adults and a 13 year old. Located close to the temple complex, the building itself used to be one of the historic buildings and had a lovely garden, traditional floors. etc. Atmosphere was top notch (gave us slippers to use ...during our meal), good wine selection and fabulous steaks, seafood and dessert. Best french onion soup in Japan. It is not a kid place, but if you have a well behaved child, they will fit in perfectly. My son loved the desserts, too.

Amazing food and cozy atmosphere in an old Japanese style building beautifully located in an old forest next to Rinnoji Temple. The beef stew and burger were among the best I ever had in Japan and the prices were still reasonable. I want to go back to Nikko just for this place.
