Shabusai Ueno

We were looking for somewhere to eat near Ueno Station and we stumbled across this place, while looking for another restaurant. The food was delicious. There were several options in terms of meats, but we ordered unlimited Beef and Pork, along with unlimited drinks (which included Alcoholic and soft... drinks). When the meat arrived at the table, we had also received some dumplings which was a nice surprise. When we needed the broth refilling, another drink or more meat, there was a handy bell at the corner of the table for signalling someone. The final price for 2 was around 70000 Yen, but for what we ate and the amount of time we were there, it was well worth it.

Trip advisor directed us here when I searched for sukiyaki just out of the ueno station. It was fantastic. All you can eat and drink! The sukiyaki was the nicest I’ve had. On what seemed a busy Friday night we arrived without booking and were seated after only a minute or two. The staff were very... accommodating of the table of English speaking Aussies. I knew my way around a sukiyaki restaurant but the guys I was with were happy for the English menu. We settled on the 3999yen Japanese meat selection and 1299 drinks all you can eat and drink. The vegetable bar for cooking in the sukiyaki didn’t have too many options but enough. The cherry tomatoes cooked up a treat. And the noodles were nice. The meat selection we choose was delicious and for 100 minutes was replenished happily by the staff. Three of us had possibly 15 trays by the end. The beer was also free flowing and when last drinks was called on our 100min we went warm saki which was an excellent way to finish. (Plus a big bowl of soft serve ice cream) Will be back next time I’m in Japan. Thanks to the staff for being great.

We came for late lunch and were happy to find out about the lunch menu — choose a type of meat (around 6-8 slices) with all-you-can-eat veggie and udon. Meat was good but we love the selection of veggies more. Couch seats were comfortable.

As we stayed in Ueno , we explored the surroundings and found this place inbetween both Ueno stations. They had an all you can eat as well as an all you can drink option. As it was our first experience with Shabu Shabu , we really loved it. The food quality was very high (however this goes for almos...t every place we visited in Japan) and the fact that we were preparing it ourselves added to the experience. We were first told about each sauce as well as what to use them for and then we could choose any vegetables from the buffet they had and they brought our meat directly to the table. I also tried the all you can drink option, which at least gave me a chance to experiment with some of the more interesting drinks such as an alcoholic beverage with Calpis.
