“Their Special "Hagama" Rice is Tasty and Worth The Hype With Whatever Meal You Get”

I quickly stopped by the Yokohama Sogo Mall while traveling, and I was in the mood for some kind of soup, sukiyaki, or nabe. There was a spot on the same floor that specialized in sukiyaki but had a long wait time—at least 30 minutes. I instead decided to go to this place, Hashiya, which seeme...d to be more of a general restaurant that didn't specialize in any particular meat dish but happened to have sukiyaki as a special option, so I settled for here. Thankfully, this place is really solid. One thing that particularly stands out is that it turns out their actual specialty is their rice. It looks like they specialize in a type of “hagama” rice. It turns out their hype was well founded, as it had a much deeper flavor than the usual rice. I can see why they specifically serve it very fresh every time and even in a special container. But anyway, what I came here for was the sukiyaki, and I really liked it! Probably not the best sukiyaki I've ever had in my life, but it was very good for a place that didn't specialize in it. It came with beef, tofu, vegetables—everything I expect from a sukiyaki spot—and was just the right amount of portions for me, especially since it came with shrimp, tuna, and white fish sashimi, which I thought was just mediocre by Japanese sushi standards. Overall, I really like this spot if you're in the mood for some better-tasting rice than usual. I recommend this spot. There are probably other typical dishes that come with rice, like katsu or something, but I really liked the sukiyaki here and hope it's still around if I ever come back.

“It’s a good place to talk”

It's a good default Japanese food, but it's nothing to write home about. I generally like it but the value may not be the best. It comes out to 2000-3000/person and the rice comes in a cool "kama." The booths are really nice though. If you want to catch up with someone and focus on talking more,... I do recommend this place.

“Excellent Food + The Best Rice”

One of the best Japanese restaurants in the area that is not so pricy. Been here a couple of times. My friends and I have tried set meals, which include tasty side dishes, miso soup, and interestingly good-tasting salad. The rice is served freshly cooked in a special pot that keeps it warm throughou...t the meal. It's good for family, friends, couples, or solo. Totally worth it. The salmon set meal is my favorite!
