Katsuretsu Asuka

Why haven't I been going to this place for years?! First, let me say, that we have a handful of places that we call our "Inner Circle", or group of limited favorites in this area. If a family member comes to visit from Canada, we surely take them to one of those. All tested and true. From Indian... curry to good home-style Japanese food. This is the newest member. I am rather picky, and everything I had in my lunch set was delicious. The pork filet cutlets were hand-flattened (?) (I could see the chef smacking it with a hammer, as the good ones do), the miso soup was prepared with small shellfish to get a delicous broth, the rice, shredded cabbage and miso soup were all delicious with free refills, the black tiger prawn was breaded and crunchy and broke of tenderly with my chopsticks....and the breaded pumpkin was just right...sweet and rather tender, too. The atmosphere was very nice even though the restaurant is located in a type of shopping mall near Ofuna station in what is technically Kamakura (Ofuna is half in Kamakura city and half in Yokohama city, thus the two area codes). Lunch is served until 4 pm and is very reasonable (about 1,000). The service was excellent with a hot towel and tea. Enjoy!
