LA TABLE de Joël Robuchon has long been one of our favourite restaurants in Tokyo. Whenever we are in town we will visit it. No exception this time. We went with family for lunch on 27 January. Everyone was impressed and we made a reservation then to come again in a week’s time. The reservat...ion was confirmed by both the staff inside the restaurant and the reception desk. To our disappointment and embarrassment when we arrived on 2 February we were told that there was no reservation for us. After much hassle and commotion there were staff who remembered that we indeed had made a reservation. We were made to wait while they tried setting up a table for us. This kind of mistakes should never have happened in a starred restaurant, let alone one of the Robuchon fame. More disappointing is that apart from saying a few sorrys, there was no attempt to make amends of the error that they made. There wasn’t any token of appreciation for subjecting us to the embarrassment of appearing to impolitely come without a reservation. A more sincere apology would befit an establishment of this stature. They totally failed on this occasion to have demonstrated a lack of concern for customer feelings.

The service at the restaurant was extremely poor, especially from the foreign waitstaff. I have dined at many two and three Michelin-starred establishments, but have never encountered one as arrogant as this? They gave off a sense of looking down on people, which completely ruined the entire dining ...experience.

The Joel Robuchon was closed for renovation in our city, and since we are in Tokyo, I think it will be nice to go as I'm craving for their food ! We chose La Table in Yebisu and it never disappoint ! Usually excellent service and food, we are heartwarmingly well taking care by their Manager Mr Ravi...nd Joorawon, who spend quality time with us. And it's real pleasure to meet Chef Ikeda as well. Will be back soon, even though the new one in our city will be reopened in August !

The time between courses was too long- often waiting 15-20 minutes. The meal with 2 appetizers, main entree, and dessert took almost 3 hours. Others who arrived later seemed to received faster food service. I requested no green onions yet my main entree came with green onions. It was returned to the... kitchen so they picked out the onions. I don’t think that is acceptable for a Michelin star restaurant. Most average restaurants would offer compensation with such a grave error. I ordered a glass of wine and it didn’t seem fresh and the pour was very small for the price. Food presentation was outstanding. Due to service issues, I would likely not recommend.

Poor tasting menu. Main entree was pigeon. Staff was ponderous. Atmosphere felt tired and old with its periwinkle purple paint out of the 1990s. Disappointing, as we used to cherish Le Atelier and Robuchon’s other restaurants around the world. Not a single dish was memorable or particularly enjoyabl...e. I’m shocked this property is still the recipient of a Michelin star.
