“ A mellowed down version of Thai cooking”

3
Reviewed 19/May/2019

I’ve always been in love with Thai foods. I love the complexity of the layers of the flavors one can taste from these dishes. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience with the Mango Tree Kitchen. Maybe because the flavor of the dishes were adjusted to concur with Japanese taste buds. No...t all Japanese like spicy foods. Anyway, i’ll try searching for a more authentic Thai food taste here at Japan. Food taste is decent, service is ok and the ambiance is quite relaxed. Good for a quick Thai food fix.

“Delicious Thai lunch”

4
Reviewed 26/Jan/2017

I was wandering around in Yokohama station looking for an interesting lunch when I saw this small, casual Thai restaurant. Lucky! My lunch was delicious. I had hot and sour soup with noodles (tamyam noodle). It included two just-barely-cooked shrimp and other miscellaneous seafood. There were lots ...of Thai seasonings on the table. In many Thai restaurants in this area, I add nanpla and vinegar to give the food a good flavor. But at Mango Tree Kitchen, the soup was already flavored just right for me. Many other customers got a dish that is shown in photos on their web site: some cooked meat with plain rice on the side and a fried egg on top. To me, that doesn’t seem appetizing, but the other customers were cleaning their plates. There’s a photo on their web site of the restaurant in Yokohama station. The photo is accurate. The restaurant is quite small. There are a half dozen or so tables for one or two people each, and also counter seating. I got extra noodles in my soup (o-o-mori), which cost a little more. It was worth it. The meal was quite satisfying. It cost around 900 yen. This is a foreigner-friendly restaurant. The menu has photos of all main dishes, and the names of the dishes are printed in English as well as Japanese. To get to this restaurant, take the down escalator that is near an exit from Takashimaya and the Louis Vuitton shop on the west side of Yokohama station. The restaurant is quite near the bottom of that escalator, that is, one flight down from the street.
