Kani Honke at Sapporo Station is a great spot for true crab lovers. The menu offers a wide variety, including grilled crab, steamed crab, crab sashimi, and full-course sets. The recommended dish is the crab shabu set — the highlight is the fragrant, naturally sweet broth made from real crab. Once y...ou dip the crab in, you get that pure, delicate sweetness in every bite. The meal finishes with rice porridge made in the shabu pot, prepared fresh by the staff at the end. The broth, enriched from simmering crab throughout the meal, transforms into a warm, comforting porridge with a rich aroma — the perfect way to end the experience.

Is this a tourist trap? perhaps. We heard foreign languages spoken in many other private rooms on our floor. But the crab is genuinely delicious. We had the snow/king crab set menu. Everything was fresh and delicious. The crab was cooked several different ways, and they're cracked and peeled, needin...g only a slight nudge to get the meat out, a perfect way to eat crab for lazy me. Like most Japanese establishments, service was impeccable.

Ordered 2 different sets -Ginpa kaiseiki for my dad and Zuihou kaiseiki set + Toro sashimi for myself. The crab sashimi tasted slightly mushy. Toro sashimi was decent. Crab porridge was too salty for our liking. The fried crab and crab miso were pretty ordinary. What disappointed me was the serv...ice overall. The items were served one by one, with no explanation of the items served and what is the next course. However, the weird thing is that all items of 1 set were served first before the second set. (I.e they served the entire ginpa set 1st before serving items of the Zuihou set), hence you have a situation of one eating while the other is watching. Overall, expected a little better given the price and reputation.

One of the best restaurant we had so far in sapporo. You can make reservation via email and they will respond in English. Once you enter the building , yes the whole building is theirs, you will be guided to your own private room. A traditional Japanese restaurant serving one of the best crab dish...es
