“Would not recommend”
Very average restaurant. We have dined at many great sushi places. This one came at the recommendation of one of those restaurant booking service. The food ingredients were no doubt very very fresh. But this is Hokkaido so it’s probably hard to find not fresh seafood. But other than the food in...gredients, everything was very “meh”. The chef was not friendly at all. The rice was over cooked. The place was boiling hot. Food came out at such a slow pace - it wasn’t slow because the chef was attention to detail. We feel it was slow on purpose to cover up there’s enough food

“Outstanding”
My wife and i had dinner here last night. This is advertised as one of the premiere sushi restaurants in Sapporo and we were lucky enough to secure a seat. We have traveled the globe and eat sushi whenever we can. Sushisai Wakichi was far and beyond THE BEST experience in our lives. Cannot recommend... more! Book early!

“Very high-end”
Sushisai Wakichi's food was delicious, and I now have a mind to start judging any sushi restaurant by how edible my nemesis (sea urchin) is. The food takes a while to get to you, but that is only because the chef is a one man show. I definitely recommend reserving your seats in advance, probably for... the 20:00~ seating so as not to feel pressured to leave early (not by the chef but by other customers). Unfortunately, as great as the food was, I just cannot justify the 200+ USD per person price. We only got a pretty moderate amount of food with no dessert.

“Great Sushi”
We visited Sushisai Wakichi in May 2017 and I have been late in my review. This place has excellent sushi and appetizers. Definitely one of the best in Japan. The chef can speak English well and he is very friendly. That night it just happened that there are only two families dining there and the ot...her family also came from Vancouver plus their aunt/uncle from Hongkong. The dinner was very relaxed and we had really good conversations. However food was definitely the star. Makes me want to go to Sapporo just to be able to eat here again. It is that good.

“Perfect ending to my Hokkaido trip ”
I originally wanted to book Sushi Ikko because it's the best sushi restaurant in Sapporo in the Tabelog website. Unfortunately it's fully booked for both nights of my visit to Sapporo. Therefore, I "settled for" Sushisai Wakichi which has the second highest score after Sushi Ikko. My very high exp...ectations were met. The omakase comprised of 7 pre-sushi dishes and 10 pieces of sushi. All of them were very good. Highlights of the pre-sushi dishes were: 1. Cooked abalone with sauce made from its liver 2. Steamed egg custard with a big oyster cut into several pieces in it 3. Monk fish liver And for sushi, my favourites were: 1. Uni 2. Anago 3. Uni and salmon roe served in a little bowl There're 2 seatings (18:00 and 20:00). I prefer the second seating since I usually don't have dinner as early as 18:00 and I guess the customers in the second seating can enjoy their dinner more leisurely. The chef didn't have anyone to assist him at the counter so he needed more time to prepare the dishes. That's good for me since I eat very slowly and don't like to be rushed. When the dinner first started, the atmosphere was very formal and the customers hardly spoke. Fortunately, as the meal progressed, we all loosened up. Though the chef spoke very little English, he tried his best to explained each course to my friend and I. The price was more or less on the same level as most high-end sushiyas in Tokyo. So was the quality of the food and service. There're only 8 seats in Sushisai Wakichi. You need to book well ahead.
