“Oily and salty!!”

We’ve tried Wagyu on this trip all over Japan. I have never heard of Furano beef, local to Hokkaido so I figured we would give it a try and compare. I booked online via their website a few months in advance. I had to choose the meal in advance and also provide credit card information in case of no s...how. This is pretty standard for many of the more expensive places in Japan. We were given a private room with tables and chairs. I wanted so much to love this place but just didn’t, especially compared to some of the other unforgettable meals we’ve had. We ordered the Maborosi course set, which included a little of everything. The first few bites were good as the meat is very soft. However, this Wagyu is heavily marbled so it starts to taste greasy after a while. Unfortunately, the chef team failed to enhance the flavors of the meat. Instead, the added too much salt and oil to everything. I cannot understand why anyone would choose to soak a fatty Wagyu in oil when it’s already fatty? As a result all I tasted was fat and salt. Even the stew was oily. In contrast, the other places we went to, the chefs created dishes that improved the flavors of the beef. Even the side dishes and vegetables were salty. I’m not sure if it’s because the staff is all super young and inexperienced. I noticed also at the Kobe steakhouse with the young staff, the meal wasn’t as good. The places we went to with experienced staff we enjoyed the food much more. We paid about $110 per person for this course meal. Sadly, the best part of the meal was the ice cream.

Best Yakiniku I have ever had. The meats melt your mouth. You could only hear sighs of pleasure . Beef sashimi, beef tartare and grilled wagyu cuts were all amazing.

Our family chose the Maborosi course and have no regrets. Each item from the set was first a feast to the eyes before it was an explosion of the taste and texture of great Wagyu. Each dish came the the certificate number of the Wagyu cow that was the source of our delight. Right at the start, t...he had a demonstration of how the meat should be cooked. Service was excellent and the who dining experience lasted for two and a half hours. The meal ended with an excellent dessert.
