“Above expectations, superb sea food dinner”
It wasnt our intention to come here, but we were litle bit far from downtown Sapporo and asked to our taxi driver, which place he would like to go or suggest. He was brutally honest (which we appreciated) and suggested a place he used to take his clients in Sapporo during his salaryman days. on a... 2nd floor of we founded Sapporokko (さっぽろっこ) my sister in law and myself had off course Classic Sapporo beer (which was a limited edition) and for the drink you get a personal appetizer, which was fresh fish submerged into kanten gelatin , very tasty when you are drinking. As appetizer we had lot of things like mix of seasonal sashimi, of course have to had Hokkaido Uni, which tastes totally different from the ones you can catch in any other coastal area in Japan, the taste is mild not strong, good enough to know you are having one of the best uni in the world. One surprising dish was to assorted Hokkaido potato fries (no im not saying french fries cuts, it cut irregularly, deep fried and just touch of salt, and i say touch of salt because this potatoes are so sweet! believe it or not! first i was so confuse i thought those were sweet potatoes but nooooo just simply fried potatoes, but what a potatoes, the one you should try is call Akari jyagaimo. Totally worth it. Of course we had to try hokkaido catched fresh fish, we had hokke, shishamo everything cooked using robata (grill) how good it was? to the point you will lick and eat the bones!! the skin was so delicate and well done cooked! Kani cream korokke (zuwai crab meat croquet) it comes with a light soy sauce dre3ssing but let me tell you, you wont need it! For "main" after all this first dished we had sea food nabe (hot pot) with assort sea food and with fish broth, uhmmm just writting this review my mind is going back to that moment and craving for more! I have to say, is not cheap but we took advantage of the traveling promotion they had (for travel to Hokkaido) cost per person is around $9000 with drinks included. Its a place that i would definitely recommend and of course going back again!! I have to say that we went during Snow festival on february.

“Go Where the Locals Go”
This was a restaurant recommended to me by the hotel staff. I went there with my family for our Christmas Eve dinner and I must say that the food was extremely good. If I am not wrong, this establishment has been around for over 40 years. The dishes such as sashimi, grilled king crab claws and yakit...ori were so good that we had second helpings. And they do have private rooms too.

“Good Local Cuisine- Fresh and Friendly”
I come to Sapporokko with family & friends. For us, its a home away from home. We come when my mother does not want to cook! They offer dishes mainly made from fresh local products and cook without chemical seasoning. Simple and tasty dishes at reasonable prices. unsure if they have English menu so... best if you visit with someone who speaks/reads Japanese.

“outstanding karaage, terrible value for uni/ikura”
This place was recommended by my hotel. It was open late on a Sunday night, which was nice. The speak very little English but they have a gaijin menu... I ordered karaage (fried chicken) and uni-ikura donburi. The karaage was really delicious - big pieces of juicy meat with very little fat inside. T...he uni-ikura was really skimpy portions and the ikura was not that much better than what I get in the Bay Area (plus it was expensive).
