“Fantastic - great food and service.”
Back on the local bus (really crowded) and to our hotel for a rest before setting off to a restaurant to have “Okonomiyaki” (Japanese pancake). It’s a cross between an omelet and frittata. We even had the Japanese mayonnaise on top of it. It was made by the chef and then placed on the hot plate in f...ront of us to keep warm. It was nice (and we did well as their English wasn’t great). A full stomach … time for rest.

“Great okonomiyaki and teppenyaki experience- cooked on grill ”
This place has great food and showmanship! Be patient though good okonomiyaki takes 30 mins - sat at grill watching. Recommend the seafood option about 1300 yen. In Avanti mall opposite Kyoto main station Hachijo East exit.

“Not as good as I hoped”
We really wanted a hibachi cooked meal while in Japan. We found this place and were excited to try it. We were seated at a table with our own grill. After ordering, we soon discovered that they don’t cook at your table. Your cooked food is brought to your table and put on the grill to keep it hot. ...The food was bland as well. I would not recommend this restaurant. The staff was very kind though.

“Nice Okonomyiaki”
Small restaurant in the basement of the Kyoto Avanti building opposite the main station. We're not really fish fans so we went for the veggie Okonomyiaki. The chef cooks up your order a few feet away (you can sit at bar stools right in front of him if you want). They serve the food onto a hot plate ...set in the table which keeps it warm. One of the waitresses then sprays the Okonomyiaki with mayonnaise from a tube about 4 feet away and added a criss cross pattern which is quite impressive :) It tasted good although was very filling and got a bit samey towards the end

“Yum !”
We had heard that in Kyoto we had to try Dotonbori Okonomyiaki as that was a local speciality. I didn't even know what it was but I'm so glad we found out. I think this may have been the most delicious thing we ate in Japan!. Our friends that we were with don't eat meat so the staff made them a vers...ion with seafood on the next table. I loved the hotplate in the middle of the table keeping the food hot as you ate it and the showmanship of the sauce delivery. I also had a very nice yuzu citron and honey highball drink. I got the brownie points for choosing this place ... everyone loved it!
