Okabeya

I was craving a return to this restaurant that I first visited with my husband. It is difficult to find Yuba outside of Japan, and it is such a vegetarian joy. The restaurant is spacious. It is in a nook off the main route to Kiyomizudera -- on the right. Wish I could remember more visual cues.

We had a tofu set lunch as this restaurant specialises in tofu. The set was very well presented. Our set included grilled tofu with miso, fried tofu, cold tofu with wasabi and tempura vegetables. The taste and texture of each tofu dish was different. They were all delicious. My favorite was the... cold tofu dish.

This is a tofu speciality restaurant. As an Asian, I am used to eating tofu but it’s never something I like (as it’s rather tasteless) I am impressed by the variety of tofu they made and made it much better than usual.

This is another special cuisine in Tokyo, Tofu hot pot and soy milk skin hot pot (especially the soy milk skin one). Soy milk was put in a hot pot and the skin started to form on the surface of the milk. You then use a chopstick like tool to skin it from the milk. So in a way, it’s kind of ToFu ...feast to have different kind of Tofu (no bean curd though). A perfect place for vegetarians to try but not for meat eaters. We like it because we can try many different tofu and tofu cuisines.

We had a traditional Japanese Lunch and our tour package included a Tofu lunch. Fresh tofu soap was cooked right infront of us or you may opt to cook your own. We had tofu soap, pickled veggies, tempura, pork (looks like steamed pork to me) but was so tender and yummy), grilled cheese amd tofu, st...icky rice, tofu with wasabe. Very healthy menu. We are carnivorous by nature but this meal surely delighted us.
