The food was great, it was amazing. The large tofu blocks were the best. Also, the tempura there was light and well salted. Would definitely recommend

“Lovely people but terrible food”

I really don't like writing this, but this restaurant was such a disappointment. Just not the care and quality you come to expect in Japan. The tofu was nice, but Bream was very overcooked and tired. The gardens are delightful but overall, very overpriced and under resourced. Cannot recommend it.

“Great service and unusual food :)”

I booked Yuba dinner for me and my daughter through Japanican web-site, hoping to try something Japanese and interesting. The restaurant specializes in tofu - maybe because the restaurant is very close to the famous Nanzenji buddhist temple complex, and buddhist monks are vegetarians? Honestly - Yu...ba was very unusual for our European-American taste :))) I wish I would google it in advance - to make sure I was not that shocked as I was when I saw what I needed to eat :)) I decided I am going to eat Yuba as I didn't want to look stupid (I booked Yuba dinner after all :), and also I didn't want to offend the people in the restaurant because of my stupidity. And I am really glad I got out of my comfort zone to try something unusual. The other meal - in addition to Yuba - was a traditional kaiseki dinner. We really loved the food and especially the stuff in this restaurant. First - we very much appreciated the restaurant was able to seat us earlier - as we came about an hour earlier and it was raining. The lady who served us was genuinely warm and really nice person. I am sure that the fact my daughter could speak Japanese helped - it always helped in Japan, as people just appreciated the fact of her being able to speak their language. But still - don't hesitate, come with open mind - and you will be happy you did!

“Eat with the monks”

Great delicious tofu set with beer. BTW it’s not all tofu. As the name suggests it belongs to Nanzenji Temple and there were plenty of monks dining alongside us. Also has a decent small garden. Very interesting restaurant, you feel like a local. Reservation highly recommended both lunch and dinner.
