“Overrated sushi restaurant”

Overpriced and horrible taste. I expected a true taste of Kyoto sushi. Especially saba zushi. What a disappointment!!!!! I wouldn't recommen this place. I think it is so overrated.

“Lunch”

I normally don’t leave poor reviews, but this was a real disappointment - I looked forward to some traditional sushi & Kyoto flavor, instead I received bland food & silence. No beer, no soy sauce & no credit card for a very expensive meal. I feel like I wasted my precious time on a lunch that left m...e unhappy.

“You don't know what sushi is, until you've ever loved saba-zushi at Izuu.”

Please do not visit this place unless you are really sure what you are looking for. Do not come here if you are looking for a restaurant. This place is a take-out sushi place with small eating space. Do not come to Kyoto, if you are looking for good service, because Kyotoites are notorious by their... snobbery :p Do not come here if you are looking for modern sushi. This place serves oshi-zushi, which is traditional sushi and very different than modern nigiri-zushi. Do not come here if you don't like the smell of fishes. Saba-zushi is the must-to-order at this place. Saba-zushi is a oshi-zushi of mackarel, and it has a strong taste of fish. Do not come here if you are not willing to pay a premium for 200 years tradition. Just buy a cheap saba-zushi at shinkansen station. Please come here if you are willing to experience different cultures, and appreciate tradition. This place is a real gem of Japanese culinary tradition, and a pride of Japanese people.

“Excellent Sushi with High Price”

Reviewed 04/Apr/2018

This sushi shop has a history for over 200 years. The menu starts at about 2400 yen pp. The service is not that good compared to normal Japanese restaurant. They are most famous for the saba sush...i and it's really tasty. I have tried other dishes on the menu but nothing really impressed me. I think it's not a good choice for meal. But it's the place if you are looking for something really represents Kyoto.
