“When in Kobe go to Munchen”
We made a special effort to re-visit the Kobe Munchen beer hall on our latest trip through Kobe this June. We called by the New Munchen a few years ago for the first time and remembered it for its excellent selection of Izakaya-style food and its interesting beer-list. Well worthwhile calling in fo...r a beer or two on a hot day and for something light and interesting to eat. It rates a permanent place on our "where to go in Kobe" list.

“Ok but nothing special.”
A little atmosphere, seemed popular and service was efficient. Guy smoking next to us, means I have to change my clothes. They did not offer us any water - first time ever in Japan! Not the cheapest and found the German music annoying.

“Authentic Beer with mixture of local and Western food”
My host family took me here and there was a little of everything for everyone. They ordered their go-tos - yakisoba, daikon salad, sausages and fried chicken. The kids were able to eat everything, and the adults enjoyed beer from the variety of choices available. But the star dish had to be the be...er, true to the nature of this restaurant. It was great despite the cold weather. And it paired really well with the crispy and moist fried chicken. Ask for the spiced salt to season the chicken.

“Nice beer brewed on site”
Beer brewed in site is very nice. Good menu is ok, with the fried chicken popular. Service was pretty average on the times I have been.

“A fun beer hall and restaurant”
We sought out this restaurant because it sounded like a change-up to meals we've been eating for the past three weeks, and the single English review was positive. Very glad to spend an evening there! We chose to sit at the first floor bar for the German beer hall ambience, despite the fact that oth...er sections were designated non-smoking. Friendly patrons, lively place, great beer, wonderful servers and delicious specialty fried chicken and roasted potatoes! An added bonus: Elton, a New Yorker who's been here (in Japan and at the New Munchen) for 17 years. He was a wonderful host and ensured we were treated well by his staff (all great). The food hit the spot: tasty, crusty chicken and potatoes. We had a great evening and cost was reasonable. Vibe is friendly and almost like "everybody knows your name". Also an attractive place! FYI there is s lot of Japanese food on the menu so not full-on German fare, but go for the chicken!
