I had an amazing meal here with my family. We were meant to visit a restaurant a couple doors down, but were disappointed that they would require our children to order (and pay full price) for the meal set. ~¥100,000 pp. So we wandered along and found Komai-Tei where they offered a kids set meal ...version, and let us order just sides for our vegetarian daughter. We dined on the lovely terrace overlooking the river. The meal was just fantastic! Our son raved that it was the best meat he’s ever eaten. To top off a wonderful evening, the wonderfully gracious staff offered the kids a gift on their way out- a Japanese box for my daughter and origami paper for my son. Highly recommend!

Under the fool moon with the Mikoshi parade of Gion Festival passing by over the Sanjodori Bridge, we ate a delicious sukiyaki dinner. The heat of the day was gone and we could relax and enjoy the cold beer and atmosphere. The place was pricey at over 8,000 Yen/person, yet it was cheaper than the m...ore well-known Moritaya right next door. We loved it!

Our family of 3 adults and 1 child visited this sukiyaki restaurant on 23 March 2018. We were at 白川 area and have a hungry child so we wanted somewhere nearby. It is our first try of sukiyaki in Kyoto , the place where its all started. There are many sukiyaki restaurants in Kyoto but we wanted to lo...ok for one that is reasonably priced, somewhere patronise by the local Japanese and not over crowded with tourist and if possible a place with a Long history of operation. I found こま井亭 SUKIYAKI KOMAI TEI highly recommended by many locals and hits all my check list. As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by a kimono dressed lady who asked us what course we wanted. Besides sukiyaki, they also serve shabu shabu and oil grill course. We chose sukiyaki and the cheapest price course at around 5900 yen (if I remember correctly) per person . They also have 2 other higher priced sukiyaki course with higher grade omi beef. We were served warmly by the Japanese lady and she cooked everything for us . The serving size of the beef and vegetables was generous Rice and dessert were included in the course too. On TOP of that , We ordered 2x hot sake and hot tea as our beverage. The patrons of this restaurant is mostly Japanese and they have a nice scenic view of the 鴨川, heard from the server lady that during summer time customers can enjoy their meal on a platform outside overseeing the river. Though the Japanese server ladies speak only minimal English but their smile and warm hospitality make us feel at home. And this is one of the most enjoyable meal we had in Kyoto. The total bill came out to 19245 yen in total for 3 adults (my 2.5 years old child was not charged) and is very reasonable. The food quantity is adequate for all of us and the quality is high. The restaurant is a little hard to navigate to as it is hidden in a small alley leading to the entrance. But it is worth the effort to find it. Highly recommended !

We visited this restaurant on recommendation from the hotel concierge and it was well worth it. The staff speak limited English but were most welcoming and worked with us to take our order and respond to our requests. They were more than patient and wonderfully helpful. Their attitude and approach w...as a big part of making it such an enjoyable evening. The meal was excellent and we enjoyed every part of it. We ate on the balcony overlooking the river and were able to watch a beautiful full moon rise over the mountain in the backdrop and enjoy the activities of the people below relaxing on the riverbank. A fantastic ambience, great service and a superb meal. Highly recommended.
