Mizukakechaya

We had read good reviews about this place and where excited to try out the 300yen a dish menu. in our price bracket for travellers on a budget. Being the first ones in their, the restaurant was certainly a little quiet. Great hostess got us some edamame and our drinks. However whilst choosing from t...he menu we saw a sizeable rodent sniffing around the food, which is all left out around the grill (ready for the evenings meal). I'm sure the food is great and in a busy evening we wouldn't have noticed such a thing. however the reaction of the staff to our discovery of a mouse sniffing around the food didn't appear to phase them, a frequent issue perhaps? we realise rodents are everywhere in a built up environment, such as Osaka, and considered staying for the meal, however by the sixth appearance of the mouse around the grill, we decided there was no way a good level of hygiene could be maintained here, especially given the food for the evenings meal out on ice trays around the grill was available for said mouse.

Horrible experience, the chef from the first floor (not the ground floor)was very rude with us, he was throwing everything, drinking alcohol in front of us, we were treated very different as he was treating the locals, I asked the cashier if she could speak English because I wanted to explain my ex...perience and she said no, very frustrating.

The chef is very bad at his cooking. He drops customers order and he just let it be and give less to the people next to us. And regarding our meal, it’s like eating fast food. Everything comes in 10 mins and you can’t enjoy it. Everything gets cold. The chef is the main problem, he throws everything... everywhere.... I will not come back. Oh and one more thing, when he handed me the plate, one of our skewer falls on the wooden handle and we have to pick up ourself.....

So it's really easy to track how much your bill will end up. At that price, we find our grilled salmon a steal. The skin is grilled to a crisp, the meat is tender it melts in your mouth. Same for the fried tofu dish. The grilled scallops, chicken wings etc were nice but nothing to rave about. at thi...s price, we simply ordered without restraint. Although every item is a small portion, u do get full, its like having tapas. Highly recommend the place also to enjoy the atmosphere watching the chef prepares the food at the counter. I have taken pic of the exterior as it took us a while to locate the shop. Watch out for the ¥300 sign on shopfront and the white lantern.

I came here with my boyfriend four months ago and we had an amazing meal! Delicious food, great service and the bill was way less than we were expecting, so we left very happy, satisfied, and excited to return. We came back again last night and were massively disappointed. Highballs were very weak (...we even wondered if they had forgotten to add the whiskey) so we switched to beer. We ordered a ton of food, remembering what we had enjoyed last time. Our first dish came and was delicious, but then we waited....and waited for 40 full minutes. We watched all the people seated after us get served all of their dishes. When we finally asked where our food was, the server looked confused and then panicked. She had clearly forgotten to put in the order because she asked us to repeat everything we had ordered. Our second dish came soon after (fried cheese crisps that were cold and many of them were missing the cheese filling). Our server then told us that several of the items we had ordered 40 minutes ago were sold out and she asked us to change our order to something else. Hungry and frustrated, we just asked for the bill instead. We waited 10 minutes for the bill and had to ask for it a second time. And then, finally, the bill included all the items we had originally ordered that we never received, so we had to wait again while she reprinted the bill. One excellent experience at this restaurant and one terrible experience. I am always impressed by the service in Japan and by the food in Osaka, (and I loved this place the first time I was here) but this last experience was the worst service I have ever received in Japan. I'm so disappointed that I've lost a fun fave eating spot in Osaka.
