“ Best dining experience during our 10 days in Japan”
After a couple of nights eating at Dontonbori we asked our hotel concierge (a lovely young man at the highly recommended Kamon Hotel) for a recommendation for a good local seafood restaurant. Tanuki Chaya was his pick and he was so right! He managed to book a table for us. Would definitely recommend... booking ahead as the place was packed (with locals as opposed to tourists). Even with a booking we had to wait about 15 minutes to get a table. Huge teppanyaki like hot plate loaded with all sorts of ingredients dominates the room. Some dinners seated around the chef, others in traditional Japanese dining rooms. Food was amazing, as was the whole atmosphere. Everyone agreed it was a trip highlight. English menu available on request. Tip - once you are ready to order there’s a little electronic buzzer on the table amidst all the condiments. We just sat round stupidly waiting for a waitress to take our order. Thanks to the people at the next table who kept pointing at our buzzer! We finally worked it out.

“Great high level Izakaya”
In Osaka for business, I usually stay a couple of weeks each time I go, so I have time to try many restaurants. Tanuki was a wonderfull experience. Great choice of seafood, fish and meat, I highly recomend.

“Best experience of the trip”
This robata restaurant was excellent. All dishes were about $3. Each one we ordered was delicious. The draft beer made the food taste even better. Fresh seafood was the highlight. We also had one of the best yaki-onigiris I've ever had. Must try this place.
