“Authentic, traditional style Japanese restaurant”
Great little place close to Shijo station. They have shoe lockers to keep the entrance tidy and some emglish menus. Great atmosphere and good staff. Some english spoken. Note that service charge is identified on the menu. Very affordable traditional style meals - mostly fish based (but there is ofte...n a wagyu alternative - NA on our visit). They also have a sake sampling option. Very good all round experience. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for an 'off the beaten path' traditional Japanese meal.

Went there with an Intrepid group. Came out so excited about the whole experience. Ordered the tempura plate.

“We just walked into this restaurant one day.... nice surprise”
They have 2500yen sets that are pretty value for money. Staff is polite and food is well prepared. Definitely recommended especially when it is right outside the subway and bus stops.

“Great and cozy izakaya! ”
Super cozy izakaya with great traditional Japanese food! Nice interior and ambience. Can really recommend the plum wine! Staff is poor in English and doesnot seem to be used to tourists who don't speak Japanese, otherwise this would be a 5/5.

“Nice ambience but poor service and average food”
First off, I know there are some good reviews of this restaurant so it could be that our experience may be a "one-off". I should also add that I live in Japan so know what to expect from Japanese restaurants. The good: really nice ambience. Traditional Japanese style seating/ tables and we had a r...eally nice enclosed booth for 5 people. Just be aware that you have to remove your shoes before entering the main restaurant (quite common in Japan in general). The bad: the service was quite poor - much less attentive than anywhere else I've been in Japan. We ordered the chicken tsutsa and the wagyu steaks. The chicken was very good (or so I am told) but the steak was very well done (when we asked for medium) and the 4 steals came one after the other so they the first person had finished before the second had even started! I know this is sometimes the case in Japan that food is brought to the table once it has been cooked but with our steaks, I don't really understand. Most restaurants would cook them and serve them together. Finally, there is a service charge of 380 yen per person which is added to the bill. Such fees are relatively common in Japan but you are usually informed about this on the menu or by the staff prior to ordering (as happened at a different restaurant the previous night). Given that the service was so poor, we felt a little aggrieved that this was cheekily added at the end with no prior warning. Anyway, we probably won't be coming back when there are so many other options but do try your luck!
