Hanaikada

I wanted to experience an onsen and the lunch was supposed to be secondary but wow!! It way surpassed my expectations! I enjoy eating fish but not toooo fishy but I ate everything and I was amazing really. VERY reasonably priced too. I recommend ordering the 3,200 meal but you get what you get (whic...h is DELICIOUS) so if you’re picky or need to know what you’re ordering, go somewhere else. The onsen was a great experience too (optional) but you MUST be comfortable being naked as you have no choice (male and female separated). There’s an indoor and outdoor hot bath but also discovered an outdoor rooftop bath with a view after I had already soaped up and dried off so that was a bit odd that it was separated from the main area but no big deal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming too though spoke very little English so you just need to go with the flow.

Spent 2 weeks in Japan. We ate at several top Michelin star restaurants and this place by far punched above its weight class. Why have a "meh" kaiseki meal at Hyotei for 4x when you can have a great experience here at a very reasonable price. Plus if you eat lunch/dinner there, you can reserve a 45...min private session in their onsen (also a must do). I believe it was like 20 bucks each for the natural spring session. it is a LOT of food so i'd suggest the 7-8 dish option that is 5,000 yen a person

I booked the lunch set because my friends wanted to try very Kyoto style cuisine so I brought them there. The food was great and the service was nice. However, when we were at the counter, the lady who spoke English seemed very impatient with us and kept telling us to hurry up (when no one was linin...g up behind us...). Not sure if she was the customer or we were the customer.
