Honkonshisai Repulse Bay Sensuiwan Kyototakashimaya

This restaurant is located in the Takashimaya shopping centre within the food court. It is open after the shop has closed. We were warmly welcomed and the staff took trouble to answer all our questions and that we understood the menu and sizing options (as we don't speak Japanese). The food was d...elicious, if we had been in Kyoto for longer we would have eaten here again.

This restaurant located in the Takashimaya shopping centre is a must do for lunch or dinner. We had banquet set menu with dumplings, fish, soup, dessert and appetiser for $25 all fresh and tasty. Won't be disappointed with food or price

Having Chinese food in Kyoto as dinner choice is "politically incorrect", in my view. Hence I was quite skeptical when some of my family members decided to go to this restaurant after we walked around the whole food/dining floor of Takayashima department store. The internal decoration is contempora...ry, simple and non-flashy, under the dimmed light, fairly "understated". We were offered in a separate room because of the size of our group. The menu looks and feels exactly like what you would get in a Chinese restaurant at Time Square Hong Kong, with items in both Chinese and English, besides Japanese description, though it did add a bit to my doubt that this place is a "tourist trap". After tasting the dishes, I had to admit I was delightfully surprised. Roast duck, seasonal vegetable with beancurd skin, pork in dark vinegar source, chilly flavoured king prawn,... all are quite quite authentically Cantonese, with balanced flavour, not overwhelming. The dish size is a bit small though. It almost makes me think each dish is only to serve one person. We doubled the order to compensate, which inevitably made the total bill kind of pricy. Overall, I'd say this Chinese/Cantonese restaurant is a recommendable option, if you feel like to have to have some Chinese meal in Kyoto.
