“Between Shitennoji Temple and Station, a small quiet place to get grilled options.”
After visiting the Flea Market at Shitennoji, we were looking for a place to eat and saw this cute little place. Drinks were all 380 yen, of which they cover all the basics from beer to sake to shochu, etc. All the dishes we ordered were along the lines of seafood, some fresh and some grilled. We ...did get complimentary fish skins, which have a satisfying crunch along with the savory concentrated essence of each fish. We also had some fried squid, along with kazunoko. Kazunoko is herring roe, generally in a collection like a beehive of golden eggs. I've never had them deep fried and battered before, but it's definitely worth a try. There is still the satisfying crunch of the eggs, along with the added flavors of the crunch and fry. We also had a simple tray of fresh seafood sushi, including shrimp, fish I can't remember the Japanese names, squid, etc. Fresh seafood is an experience within itself, and in some ways, also a telling way to understand the kind of restaurant you're in. Whenever a friend comes back from vacation, they inevitably compare the sushi in Japan to anywhere else. I guess it's something to try and understand. Overall, nothing extra ordinary. But these types of bar and grill are very popular, and very quiet. You can definitely get your fill, and some evening, afternoon, lunch or even breakfast drinks to get your day going again.
