“Avg food”

Average Thai food while in Osaka. If you eat outside you have a great view of the river. Inside the smoking section and nonsmoking are divided by a few pillars which are quite amusing in my opinion. We ordered spring rolls and curry. I asked for thai spicy and of course, it was not delivered that ...way. Ugh annoying.

“Rude staff. Average food. Followed the generally good reviews on trip advisor and wish I hadn’t. Strongly advise against”

We visited this restaurant on our last night in Japan. I found it on trip advisor and saw it had generally good reviews. Unfortunately I will not be adding to those good reviews, and it has actually made me lose my faith in using trip advisor as a selector of good restaurants. I’ll start with the g...eneral. It’s very difficult to find. We almost gave up. I rather wish we had done now before we found it, and maybe our final night in Japan wouldn’t have been ruined by this place. The food. A lot of reviews said the food wasn’t authentic. I’m not too fussed about that. I just wanted nice food though and I ordered exactly the same dish as I had had in another Thai the previous week and the previous week’s meal was incomparably better than this. The food was okay. It wasn’t awful. Nothing to write home about. And pretty expensive because of the location. The issue we had - so my partner ordered a mojito. Mojito came and was basically some form of Mojito syrup they’ve bought and you put soda in it. It tasted a little bit like vimto and soda water. No cocktail flourish, nothing. And it didn’t even have a taste of a mojito. You know you can buy those mojito cans in M&S, absolutely nothing like that. YET, one of my main issues was that they charged the same price as you would for a proper mojito with all the trimmings - and it came from a specific ‘cocktails’ list. I went to the bar and said ‘im not sure this is a mojito’. The bar man didn’t even reply, just pulled this bottle of ‘mojoto syrup’ and gave it to me. He turned it round and pointed to the alcohol percentage. His rapidness in this rather presumed to me I wasn’t the first person to complain about this. I was barely even complaining. Just questioning. I asked if we could swap it for something. This man decided he could no longer deal with the issue and walked off to get a waitress who spoke better English. She was lovely. However she told me that it was a ‘japanese mojito’ and ‘things are different in japan’. Whilst I am slightly sympathetic with that - a ‘japanese mojito’ isn’t a thing. What it is however is a clear excuse to con westerners out of their money. Charge premium prices, call it something a western tourist in a very touristy area will recognise, give them cheap produce and then use this excuse when they complain. The excuses came too quickly, and too rehearsed, as though this happens very often. The lady seemed to agree to exchange the drink. So we clarified we would only be paying for one and she went to speak to who we believed to be the manager. The man who was the initial bar man comes back in, waves his hands in my face and shouts ‘no no no’ to me. I apologise, but this greatly annoyed me. You don’t treat a customer like that. Especially when all I was asking was to swap a drink made of cheap syrup, for something else. You’d think customer service would kick in here and they go ‘okay not ideal but they are just about to spend A LOT of money in here and this is such a small fraction of that to make a customer leave happy’. Overall we spent the equivalent of about £60. The drink was worth about £6. Yet cost price - I doubt the whole bottle of that syrup was more than a pound or two. Unfortunately I got quite angry at how rude he was to me and he continued to wave his hands in my face telling me it was a ‘japanese mojito’ and ‘you will pay for both’. I got quite irate and said we would leave then, to which this man grabbed my arm and told me he would call the police. I was very set on leaving. The lady in the middle of all of this was so kind and helpful and a mixture of her, and my partner calming it down meant that we decided to stay. The waitress seemed very distressed that I was angry with her and I tried to make it very clear that that wasn’t the case. I also know that in some countries, if a customer leaves without paying, they put the bill on to said waitresses and that wasn’t my intention at all, so for that reason we stayed. I made it very clear to this man that he was incredibly rude and that this wasn’t the way to run a restaurant but he honestly didn’t seem to care one bit. He said nothing and just stood there smirking. A little later another man arrived. An older man, who to be honest this time did look like the manager. This previous aggressive man spoke to him and very apparently told him of what had happened. They stated, chatted about us for a good while, and then the rest of the night the manager stood staring at us, but never came over to apologise. The irony is... eventually they took the mojito off the bill. We didn’t even want that. We would have paid the whole thing. All I wanted was to swap that with something else. To be completely honest, our experience in this restaurant ruined our last night in japan. So much so that we went somewhere else afterwards for a drink in order to try and forget we had ever visited. Go there if you like - but nothing about it was worth it for me. Rude staff (except the one very kind lady who tried to resolve issues and without her I think we would definitely have walked out), very average food, expensive prices, awful drinks. Every restaurant in dotombori is HEAVING. There’s queues to get in the majority. This one had about 2 tables full when we entered. Maybe that should have be a sign that this isn’t the place to eat in Osaka.

“Authentic Thai food”

We liked the food so much that we visited it twice. The food was full of flavour and it was excellent. The service on our second visit was not as good as they served the soup when we completed our main meal.

“Not the best Thai food we have tasted”

On our last day in Japan we wanted to try something else than Japanese food. The waiters we met were really friendly, but the food was disappointing. Two of us wanted a set menu, but we were not allowed to order that since our two children just wanted one a-la-carte dish each. Everyone needed to ord...er a set menu, we were told. I can not understand this rule which is not beneficial for the restaurant. We ended up with ordering fewer dishes at a lower cost than our initial plan. 3 of us were quite satisfied with the chosen dish, but the crab dish did not meet my expectations.
