“Delicious udon”

4
Reviewed 28/Jun/2016

I came to this restaurant for a late lunch, so the place is quite empty. Decor of the restaurant is quite nice and the staff is very friendly. There's an English menu which is also nice. I ordered a tempura udon that cost 930 Yen and was surprised by the size of the bowl. The texture of the udon is ...very nice, slightly chewy but tender. The tempura items were placed on top of the bowl, but I would prefer served on a separate plate as the items would not be crispy once in the soup bowl for too long.

“Good 24 hour udon shop!”

Reviewed 13/Sep/2015

My wife and I were looking for a good place for breakfast in Osaka. Something that is rarely mentioned in reviews is that most places in Japan don't open until 11:00 am. My wife mentioned that she read about a popular 24 hour udon shop. We found Tsurutontan. Tsurutontan is a chain of udon restau...rants with locations in both Tokyo and Osaka. The location itself was quite easy to find. Just take the Midosuji (red) subway line to Daikokucho station. The restaurant is an easy 2 to 3 minute walk (depending on which exit) from the subway station. The restaurant was really quiet when we arrived and we were the only patron for quite a bit since it was early. The restaurant had an English menu which was very easy to read. My wife had the tsukeman (udon) with the duck based broth. I had the katsu curry udon. Both dishes were incredible. The presentation of the udon on ice for the tsukemen was beautiful. The udon was fresh and chewy and had an incredible smell and taste. The duck based dipping broth was flavorful and definitely different from other typical fish based tsukemen dipping broth. My curry udon was rich and the katsu was nicely done. Like most ramen/udon places, the average price was 800 to 1000 yen. Whether you are looking for a place to eat early morning or just looking for a good udon shop, you can't go wrong with Tsurutontan.
