Kikkouya

This is an amazing izakaya resto. Everything we had was cooked with both top ingredients and care. This is the sort of place where after ordering you keep getting more food because of the quality. Definitely reserve as the space is small.

Absolutely delicious and has a warm, home-cooked feel to every dish. The owner was very kind to us and he even walked us outside the restaurant to show us where the taxi stand was.

Read about this on the inside Kyoto website(great site for visitors to Kyoto). We went Sunday without a reservation and could not get in (I feel like they could have for us in but this seems like a very “Kyoto” thing). Made a reservation for the next night. Definitely a more formal place, not fun or... friendly (we had been to a standup Izakaya place the night before which was very fun). But the food was good, carefully prepared and very flavourful. For 6000 yen we had two beers each and lots to eat. So all and all good ... if they tried alittle harder to be friendly it would be a 5

We arrived without a reservation but the friendly staff found room for us anyway. We had a good meal with a lot of different authentic Japanese food. And even though the four of us we wasn't quite sure who had ordred what - the staff was just having fun out of that. We had some very good sake as wel...l. And everything was for a resonable price.

Authentic restaurant. Very welcome restaurant, also for tourists, although we haven't seen others ☺️
