“Japanese Izakaya”
Looking for fresh sashimi found Mihanami three blocks from Wakayama Station. Pretty crowded with locals as you would expect at 7:00 pm on a Saturday night but they squeezed me in at the end of the sushi bar (while turning away couples!). Found what I was looking for and was delighted with the rath...er substantial "hunks" of hamachi, salmon, maguro, etc. rather than the common slices. As an izakaya there are other dishes for folks looking for tempura, traditional vegetable dishes, salads, yakiniku and so on. I liked the little three morsels appetizer that came (free) to start, tempura vegetable, fishy thing and couldn't place the third. Two (nama) beers, small bottle of sake, sashimi moriawase, eight pieces of sushi and nasu (egg plant with the molassas like topping) all came to 6000 yen.

“Japanese flair. Up scaled and excellence”
I had the privilege to dine at this amazing restaurant with truly fresh seafood and a wide array of Japanese side dishes. Had blowfish and sashimi. Good selection of soju, sake and beers. The service was unparallel, friendly and attentive. The house special sushi roll was uber delicious! When the ch...ef realized that I was from Malaysia, he showed his excitement and appreciation by dishing out the sushi row in the shape of my national flag! Like many Japanese restaurants, the place is small and tight but the private rooms are uber spacious. A Truly Japanese hospitality experience and a must for anyone visiting Wakayama.
