“Cosy Tiny Bar”
You haven’t experienced Japan until you’ve dined in a cosy tiny bar with miniature tables & stools. You are basically sitting in the kitchen…well at the very least, very close! Our experience here was fantastic as the service & the food was absolutely delectable. We had six freshly shucked oysters ...followed by assorted prosciutto & salami, sautéed shrimp with garlic butter, potatoes with anchovy butter, rare cutlet of beef & finally, the tiramisu. We could not fault the food and washed it all down with a smooth red wine. Perfection! Pricing was on the dearer side but well worth it for the unique experience. TIP:- If you come as a group, you’ll be able to get a table upstairs that caters for groups of 3 or more.

“French/Italian/Japanese fusion”
Oh my goodness we stumbled accross this place quite late looking for dinner and it was the most wonderful surprise. The food is incredible, so many delicious flavours!!! My husband reports he has never had chicken like this in his life. But the stars of this restaurant are definitely the seafood! Th...e atmosphere was super friendly and cute and a perfect place for a honeymoon/date dinner!

“Expensive”
This place is very cute and the service is good, but we paid 800 Yen for one beer, which is the most expensive beer I ever had!

“Seafood Gem near Kyoto Station”
Passed this small & lively Oyster Bar come Japanese Tapas restaurant on way from our hotel ( The Granvia near Kyoto Station) and decided to go there for dinner on our last night in the city . Very busy and we were only “tourists/ westerners “ in place . Sat at counter in front of Chefs and staff wer...e friendly and polite and although little English spoken there was an English menu so easy to order . We took Oysters ( fresh local and excellent ) , various seafood dishes and I also tried their beef and chicken . In all the food was excellent , fresh , prepared in front of you and in just the right proportions. To drink we had some Japanese beer and a bottle of wine ( their selection isn’t large but they have a reasonable amount of not overpriced Red & White available ). The bill was mid range The end result was a very enjoyable evening and we were glad we had found Kakimaru and would happily recommend it !
