“So good we went back twice....”
This is a great place to eat. Nice ambience, fantastic food, variety of drinks, and attentive service. We loved the sushi, the carpaccio, the fried tofu, the tempura, the yakitori.....everything. Push the buzzer on the table and every request is satisfied. Very handy to Kyoto Station too. Try it out..., you won't be sorry....and it won't break the bank either.....

“Nice food for an acceptable price. Food was well presented and prepared. I even had horse sashimi which tasted great. ”
Nice food for an accetable price. Food was well presented and prepared. I even had horse sashimi which tasted great. Menu list was in English. Only the chicken hearts were a bit too adventures. Aspergus with beef was great . Tunna with advocado was a disappointment because the advocado was too hard.... White wine was too warm but solved with ice cubes.

“Locals are never wrong!”
I ate here two nights, both times the food was excellent, service great and the decor and cleanliness were impeccable. Sushi was lovely and fresh and one out of the box, tempura avocado was delicious! Both nights the restaurant was very busy, some tourists like me but mostly locals with a lot of gr...oups of businessmen which is always a sign to me that the food is good and authentic, and it was.

“Interesting Japanese food...”
After our Kyoto walking tour, our last stop was around Gion. Not sure what to eat, we decided to just walk along the streets and ended up at Iroha Karuta Kyotoekimae restaurant. The problem is that all the names are in Japanese and we do not even know the name of the restaurant, but guess we just ...looked at the pictures and the display to decide on the restaurant. It was a cozy little restaurant and an English menu is available. That made ordering so much easier. :) We decided to try a few unusual dishes such as grilled beef tongue, horse meat, tuna & avocado carpaccio, okonomiyaki (Kyoto style) as well as pot gyoza. Very interesting fare! Not too expensive and a great way to try various dishes. The restaurant is also very close to Kyoto station.

“Very Good Japanes Fare”
This restaurant across from Kyoto station is a very nice spot to enjoy reasonably priced Japanese fare. My colleague and I found this place while wandering around by the station searching for a place to eat. It was on the lower level of the Hokke Hotel but was not difficult to spot with the sandwich... board out in front. The inside appearance was crisp and bright. The menu was varied offering salads, yakitori and yakiniku, sushi, sashimi and a variety of other options. The service was excellent all evening as I have come to expect in a Japanese establishment. We decided to try several things as is typical in a place like this. We had a Caesar salad, a yakitori and yakiniku plate, a sashimi plate and some vegetable spring rolls. We also had a couple of smaller items such as edamame. We were quite happy with the quality of each of the items. We were also fairly happy with the prices as our total bill was about 5000 yen when we were done, which was not bad for a business meal in Japan. If you are near Kyoto Station and want a reasonably priced typical Japanese meal, this is a good spot to try.
