“Nice Kobe Beef set meal in a private room!”

After doing our shopping nearby, we came by for our dinner. It was around 7pm when we arrived and the restaurant at the side of the small lane was already quite full house. The restaurant was well-decorated and had received many awards and credentials for selling Kobe beef. We were led to a privat...e room by the friendly staff who was conversant in English. The ambience of the restaurant was cosy and homely, like that of a traditional Japanese home. After browsing through the menu, we ordered the kobe beef sets and each set came with the soup and bread, salad, rice, miso soup and the beef. We also ordered red wine to go along with the beef. This was not the first time we have had Kobe beef except that it was the BBQ version then but this time, the beef was already cooked. Trust me, the beef were tasty, fresh and juicy, well marinated (mainly pepper and salt). Very yummy! The other dishes were nice too. Services were good as staff were efficient, polite and friendly. Value for money? It's good value considering it's quality though its a little steep (about Singapore dollars $280-300). But it's worth it.

“Not quite worth the price”

We initially saw the promo of 1500 yen lunch and wanted to try out. Turns out there is no such promo. We were asked to remove our shoes and brought upstairs. The menu has different parts of beef with different weight, 80g, 120g and 180g. I took the outer part 120g which cost around 3700 yen excludin...g govt tax. My hub ate the tender beef part 120g too which cost 5000 plus yen. Both our sets came with salad, a bowl of rice and miso soup as lunch promo. The beef is still quite tender nonetheless but i am not sure if it is because of the part I ordered or i am just not so impressed. Perhaps if you try the premium ones which cost 100 to 200 000 yen might cut the deal?

For 6 people, total cost 100,000 yen. 30 minutes to go through the dinner. Alone in the restaurant. Dreadfull design. Dreadfull ambiance. Felt like it was a scam. We had the best meal of our life last summer at Ishida Kitanozaka and the beef there was completely at another level. Stay away from this... place if you don’t want to feel sorry for yourself.

“Not good value for money”

We had lunch there for a group of 18 people. We were arranged to sit in a 2/f area where food was pre-cooked and delivered to us. Service was slow as it took us a few requests before receiving the wine/sake menu and hot tea. The worst thing is that they charged Yen 300 per person for hot tea (never ...experienced that in Japan) and Yen 300 for extra bowl of rice. Overall quality of beef dishes was average but the price was rather expensive - about Yen 15,000 per person excluding sake.

Not for budget travellers, but it won't break the bank either. They have set meals wherein you can enjoy just the kobe beef steak, or some other additional dishes (also kobe beef). We were told the akami (the cheapest kind in the menu) was a bit tough compared to the prime parts, but it wasn't. It w...as still amazingly good. Money well-spent. Before they serve anything, they put plaques and/or trophies on the table first, as proof that their meat won some sort of citation for being really good (not sure; it's in japanese!). We were kind of weirded out at first but when we tasted the meat, OH YES gimme that trophy! You can take all sorts of pictures with the trophies because you'll have the meal with them :P
