“A dining adventure”
This is one of the few restaurants in Hikone that stay open past 10:30pm. As we walked in we were told that there would be a cover charge plus I think an additional fee for it being after 10pm which was fine. Traditional seating booths are at the front of the restaurant but I sat at the back where ...there are some impressive paper lanterns. The seats were actually plastic crates with cushions on them! The staff didn't speak any English but the picture menu was pretty good. There was a nice seafood tempura dish which included Eel (anago). Also I tried mackerel sashimi (saba) for the first time and was a little surprised by its slightly coarse consistency. While the menu is mostly fish there are some noodle dishes on the as well. There's a good range of drinks including beer, sake and no alcoholic beverages. For something different I tried a refreshing kiwi soda drink. Not knowing exactly what we were eating made our dinner at Mekiki no Ginji a bit of an adventure, and certainly meant that I got to try some different things.
