Here Japanese kitchen meets Western styl kitchen in its finest ways. Apart from the impressing windows and sights on the city of Osaka, you will be concentrated on the fine and very nice arrangements on your plate! Not only nice to see but very tasty to eat! have this experience!!

Escale on the lobby level of hotel minterey, 22nd floor, five seconds from ground with a nice modern lift which gives a smooth ride. Many young korean couples dine here, only abiut eight tables. simple decorations, fine dinning setting, nice service and silver wear. Dishes are fusion with creative... thicking, an unique gastronomical tasting experience nearly reach michilen level. house wine pinot noir with good finish fair nose, ordinary! 1500 yen a glass. environnent is very quiet, young couples eat and talk quietly, very pleasant environment to enjoy fusion frenchjapon crusine with a panorama view facing the direction of daimaru and nikko hotel. 10000yen, seven course with very small portion of lobster soup, a small lobster and sea bass cooked with mild taste, roast japan beef two slice about 40g, not eight oz....big eater might expect more...only is small piece of bread with small piece of butter.

“Decent price but average all round”

I’ve stayed in a lot of “business hotels” when I lived in Japan and had to come to Osaka for work. They had better locations and working facilities than here. It’s not that it’s a bad place, it’s average. Close enough to walk easily down to Midosuji/Shinsaibashi area and the Dotonbori river and of... course, decent for the price but I think I’ll either just pay more next year and stay at the Swissotel or pay less and stay at the Dotonbori Hotel. They both rate much better than here. Might be just me but my own “pet hates” have annoyed me enough to know. The best thing though, about the Grasmere is the handy phone. It’s a really great touch for first timers to Osaka and people returning for a long awaited re-visit. Well done for that. The other stuff? All the same as other places. You can choose cleaning and room tidying at your leisure but understand that it hasn’t been “really” cleaned for a few days before you get there. Enviro-savvy and all that :-/ For Westerners who might use their room a bit more, I’d say the lack of at least BBC or CNN News (ie with English) on the TV is a drawback but couple that with poor to rubbish level of wifi past about 8pm in then evening (especially in the southern areas of the building), then it’s just crap in general. One of those pet hates I mentioned earlier.

“Escale restaurant ”

This review is about the restaurant. There were three menu options, 6500¥, 8500¥, and 11000¥. I chose the least expensive one and it was great. I had 3 amuse-bouche, a chaud froid with caviar, a small winkle dish and fried crab with bleu cheese (all great). Next there was a mackerel appetizer and a ...small lentil soup. Then there was a stuffed fish with uni. For my main dish, I had lamb with vegetables. Dessert was a ganache with vanilla ice cream. I had Chardonnay, a Pinot noir and finish off with a Taliskar scotch. Everything was top notch but just a little small. The view from the 22nd floor was unbelievable! The dining room and service was also great. Go there if you get a chance!

I am totally disappointed. Typhoon Lan made more than hundreds of flight delay and we are one of the sufferers. I cannot accept that Monterey rejected to refund. Many successful refund cases happened around my friends and families even in small scale of hotels. I cannot believe the reject from Monte...rey.
