What is shabu-shabu(Q&A)
Q. What is shabu-shabu
A. Shabu-shabu is a Japanese dish where very thinly sliced beef is cooked in a traditional hot-pot full of boiling broth.
The meat is cooked by gently dipping and waving it around in the broth with chopsticks. The beef is so thin you can almost see through it, so it cooks quickly and is ready to eat as soon as its color changes.
Q. How do you eat it
A. Shabu-shabu pots contain soup stock. Heat it up, and when the soup stock warms up, add whatever you like, such as vegetables, mushrooms, or tofu. When the soup stock boils, pick up the meat with chopsticks and dip it in the water until it is ready to eat. The meat is cut so thinly that it is transparent, so it cooks quickly. It is ready to eat when it changes color. Put the meat in the pot with chopsticks and lightly dip it in the soup stock. Shake the meat in the soup stock 2-3 times, and eat it by dipping it in ponzu or sesame sauce.
Q. How do you eat it deliciously
A. The beef is thinly sliced. Don't overcook it. it's best when it's pink.
When the pot boils, scum will rise to the surface. Skim it off frequently for a more delicious taste.
