Kura Sushi Shinsekai Tsutenkaku

Having had eaten at the USA branches of Kura Sushi, and checked out the Shinsekai menu online beforehand, I was confident that the experience would be the same. Surprisingly, the biggest difference with this Japanese location was dearth of human interaction with regards to service. You get a table... number from the kiosk at the entrance, you follow the flashing signs with your assigned number to your table location, you get your own eating utensils, water glasses, napkins, etc from a side area (only learned about it from watching where the other diners were getting theirs). Paying your bill followed a similar procedure, sans human interaction. The only time I actually saw a person was the one who appeared to clean the table of a previous customer. This might be a hold-over from the pandemic / current labor shortage, and while it might seem unfair to do so, dropped the rating level by one. Misanthropes and extremely solitary diners might find the lack of interaction with the staff to their liking. As for the food, the ordering / delivery system was identical to what I experienced at the USA branches, and there were some items on the menu that were a bit unexpected... Like "apple fritters" (deep fried gyoza with sweet apple filling). Overall, food was good as the Kura restaurant chain is know for, and the prices reasonable. Just go in with the idea that you'll be doing all the table prep before ordering.

We’ve been to a couple Kura sushi’s. I think I preferred this location over the Dotonbori one. The menu selection was better. Enjoyed the avocado and onion was interesting.

The fish is quite disappointing. It's mediocre at best, covered with toppings to hide its mediocrity. Service is no better. At least pretty cheap.

My husband and I were feeling like a different sort of sushi train conveyor belt restaurant and we were not disappointed! Delicious food at good prices, and an awesome experience!
