“Small yakitori restaurant with excellent food”
Small yakitori restaurant with excellent food. This is a casual place with both counter and table service. The menu was in both English and Japanese, and the staff communicated easily using translation apps. It is only chicken - so don't expect anything else other than salads and soups. The tomato s...alad was outstanding - a whole skinned tomato marinated in a sweet/sour sauce.

“Great skewers & grilled meat!”
Torito is hidden in a small alleyway in downtown Kyoto and almost as difficult to find as a speakeasy bar. Make sure to make a reservation or don't come to hungry, as waiting is not unusual when visiting prime dining hours. We came in rather early, beating the usual crowds and took place on of the n...arrow bar tables at hand. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. Very unusual combinations coming in Tapas style, but all definitely worthwhile. While they do have vegetarian options, am I not sure, whether i'd go there if I didn't eat meat, but for us it was a real feast. Freaky, but not too odd.

“Chewy meat but friendly staff”
We didn't care much for the for here... I've lived in Japan for 3 years of which I spent a considerable time in kushiyaki restaurants... I believe I know my way around these places. The service was very friendly and attentive (as usual in Japan), hence the 2 stars. However, both the chicken and pork... skewers very so chewy that we had to spit out bits. That's a problem when it's the main part of your menu. Interesting dish: kyuuriage, the fried cucumber. I didn't think they could pull it off, but it was actually quite nice!

“Some good and some not so good chicken”
Their specialty is chicken on skewers cooked over charcoal - you can order different parts of the chicken. We experienced quite a range of satisfaction here. Some had quite a good dinner that they thought was tasty. Others had chicken that was raw on the inside (we don;t like our chicken raw) - a...nd the chicken meat was tough - chewy like eating rubber. But one of the skewers of chicken meat was very good, tasty and tender. Unless you know how to order, which we did not, be ready for a variety of satisfaction levels.
